MTM May Day

This wasn't really themed but I thought I'd add a little flowerness as it's the first of may and I think that means the start of spring? I might be lying. I also think that today is may day but again, I might be lying as tomorrow is the may day bank holiday. Hmmmmm. Anyway, I did a muffin tin lunch and pudding for T today.

flower shaped ham and cream cheese sandwich, veggie crisps, more sandwich,
green beans, cheese, baby sweetcorn.

Strawberries, gingerbread flowers, grapes,
blueberries, banana, peaches.

Finding better uses for the silicon muffin cups

Tucking in to the pudding.

T had a whole plate of food on his tray, he didn't get over whelmed and throw it on the floor. That is a big deal for me, this is the first time he's ever done it. I'm so proud! Normally I just have to give him a piece of whatever at a time. If I offer him a dish of something he can normally pick one thing out at a time but not always. I thought I was being foolish giving him all of his pudding at once on a plate but he did so well, he didn't throw anything of it!

Knitted Royal Wedding (aka My Grandma is awesome)

My Grandma is an amazing crafter so when my sister and I saw this book we thought of her. We bought it for her about 2 weeks before The Royal Wedding and jokingly told her that she had to make them by the 29th. Well guess what? She did!

Most of them don't have faces or hair as unfortunetly she didn't have time for that before the wedding but she's going to add them later.
 Group Shot
 The corgies are my favourites
It's all guess work with the men so I think this is Prince Philip.
 The Queen
 Kate
 Harry or Charles or William?
 Arch Bishop of Canterbury
 Harry or Charles or William?
Harry or Charles or William?

As you may have notice their is no Camilla, Grandma didn't make her as she doesn't like her and so decided she wasn't going to the knitted royal wedding.  (that made me laugh)

I think I might buy her this and this next (haha, my poor Grandma)

I hope you are all impressed with my Grandma's mad knitting skills!

Easter Week's Round Up

As T is getting older, gaining understanding and motor skills as well as a longer attention span, I’ve thought it was about time to start giving a bit of planning structure to his weeks, for his benefit and my sanity. I went shopping for craft supplies and found loads of good stuff. (The Works is my favourite place.) I also printed out some colouring sheets from sparklebox (I love that website, it has loads of brilliant resources.)
It was our first week with a theme. I decided on Easter for obvious reasons. I’m not too religious and he’s a little to young to gain anything from bible stories so we did a more secular Easter (bunnies, eggs, etc.) My plan went a little like: Craft, playdough, colour, paint, investigate. We have spent most days in the garden as the weather has been so lovely which made clean up easy peasy. We painted/coloured/collaged a big cardboard standy up egg thingy. There were two pieces, I did one and T did the other, it was about 4 days worth work as he will focus for about a minute at a time for craft. (no pictures of egg standing up as T sat on my piece and bent it, big meanie.)

Front                                                                                       Back

                                                                Showing off his painting skills
He also coloured in some cards to give to Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Liv and Uncle Row (which I forgot to give to them...)
Bunny card
I then had a search for chicks hatching. I found a lovely one, it explained what was happening and had a nice song to it but didn't have anything yucky or gory. Chick Video T seemed to enjoyed it.
As T doesn’t eat chocolate, no egg for him but I got him some mini Easter plushies: a bunny, a chick and a lamb. They're from Matalan.

Then when I was in Tesco I saw some super cute plastic Easter cookie cutters, I got two sets, one for T's playdough and one for cooking. (no pictures) I then found some Easter toddler cutlery so I got T a set.
I only got a picture of the ends with pictures on but it was a spoon, knife and fork set.
We did spring cleaning on Friday and Saturday, this is T’s idea of help:
Clearing out all the shoes :)
He also fluffed pillows (whacking the sofa) cleaned/dusted/polished. (wiped at everything with a paper towel)

My week round up is a week late but ah well. I will get better at posting regularly, I promise!

MTM Royal Wedding :)

This week our theme is The Royal Wedding

T had muffin tin pudding in a heart shaped silicon ice cube tray. (I bought it to cook with so I say it's a muffin tin) I did red, white and blue (colours of the Union Jack)

Lunch: heart shaped mini ham and cheese muffin pizzas

MTM, Pudding: banana, blueberries, strawberry, banana,
blueberries, strawberry, yoghurt x3, mini apple cornbread muffin

 Tucking in :)
T normally uses his spoon for yoghurt but decided not to today. He then took most of the fruit shoved it in the yoghurt and finally started using the spoon to retrieve the fruit.

He then had strawberries in a chicken muffin cup after his dinner. T was so excited by the muffin cup, he slid it round his tray whilst quacking, so cute. I don't think he noticed the strawberries till I took one out for him.

Playdough

T has just grasped the concept that playdough isn't food and that it's more fun if you play with it, so today I made him some. Homemade playdough is far much better than the store bought stuff; is non-toxic so although it's not too tastey it won't do them any harm if they eat it; you can make as much as you like in whatever colour takes your fancy; it doesn't dry out as quickly; it's so cheap! and personaly I think the actual dough is alot nicer too.

1 Minute Playdough recipe:
Your will need:
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • I cup of boiling water (from the kettle) mixed with some food colouring (optional)
What to do:

Put all the dry ingredients in a bowl add the hot water then oil and mix together. Kneed the dough to a even colour and texture.
Store in sandwich bags or air tight containers

Mondays Bento

For a little while now I've loved the whole concept of bento but never really had the time or reason to make them for myself.
Since T's been eating 'proper' food I've been giving him bentos often for lunch when we're out. If you've never heard of bentos there's some info about them here.
I like to keep food fun for him even though he's a really good eater (there's not a lot he won't eat)
On Monday I knew we'd be out so I thought T might enjoy a bento for his lunch.

It has a bit of a star theme going on...
Cucumber and peppers. Cream cheese sandwiches with cheddar cheese underneath.
Apple stars with banana chips and raisins

Yum yum :)

He ate most of it but he still can't manage the apple or pepper too well.
